“The block of flats across the street from where I’m living has a palm tree. 

I see it close up, most days, if I exit the flat, cross the street, and turn right. It isn’t very tall, and doesn’t bear fruit, I don’t even think it’s a real palm tree, like the ones you get on white sand beaches which drop coconuts from the sky. The leaves tendril off in many directions; with their purple hue they point this way and that way, upwards, downwards, that side, this side. You could almost mistake their pointed blades for swords, or long teardrops..."
